Memento mori, that old adage…

For us, witches and mystics, it is both a reality, for we work with Death, and initiation itself is a death before death, and, at the same time, one of the ultimate aims of the spiritual quest is to transcend death through access to immortality. Yet Death may come at any moment. The only thing we are given is a certain amount of time.

This is what this silver pendant represents: a shield upon which an hourglass slowly runs its course, adorned with wings, the wings of the Angel of Death.

The hourglass is a reminder that time is never ours to possess. It passes through us, grain by grain, while the wings of Death remain ever-present, waiting beyond the threshold.

To wear it is therefore to carry a simple and ancient truth close to the body: our time is limited, Death is inevitable, and what we choose to do with the time given to us is part of the mystery.
